Broad Bean Aquadulce Claudia
(1844) A famous old variety with vigorous plants for Autumn or spring sowing.
The white beans are delicious hot or cold. Medium sized pods up to 25cm.

Sow late October-November, 5cm (2”) deep, in double rows 30cm (12”) apart allowing 25cm (9”) between seeds.  Cloches can provide extra protection from severe weather.

Pinch out the tops of plants when bottom pods are 7-10cm (3-4”) long - this will encourage an earlier crop of well filled pods.

Harvest from late May/June onwards
Pick pods when they are 7.5cm (3”) long and cook them whole. But when picking pods to shell wait until the beans start to be visible through the pod,- the scar on the bean should still be white or green - not black.
