Leaf Beet - Rhubarb Chard
A tasty vegetable which also adds colour to the garden. Can be picked small for salad use, or left to mature. Use the dark green portion of the leaves like spinach.

Sow 2.5cm (1”) deep, 10cm (4”) apart in rows 37cm (15”) apart from April to July. Thin seedlings to 30cm (12”) apart.

Water during prolonged dry periods; mulching will help conserve soil moisture.

Harvest from July to January, picking separate stems as required. Cloche protection in late Autumn will allow longer cropping.
The bright red stems can be cut into sections, lightly cooked and served whilst crisp.
